Subtitle converter and timing fixer
Convert between SRT, VTT and ASS, shift timings that run early or late, and repair the drift that comes from a frame-rate mismatch. Runs in your browser — the file never leaves your computer, and there is nothing to install or sign up for.
…or paste the subtitles straight in below.
Fixing subtitles that are out of sync
There are only two real causes, and they need different fixes.
Everything is late (or early) by the same amount. The subtitles match the film, they just start at the wrong moment — usually because the video has a different intro, or the release was cut differently. Find how far off the first line is, type that number into Shift all cues, and the whole file moves with it. Use a negative number to pull subtitles earlier.
It starts fine and gets worse. That is a frame-rate mismatch. A film mastered at 23.976 frames per second and shown at 25 runs about 4% faster, so by the end of a two-hour film the subtitles are minutes adrift. Shifting cannot fix that, because the error grows. Pick the matching pair under Frame rate and every timing is rescaled proportionally.
If it is out by a constant amount and drifts, rescale first, then shift.
Don't have a subtitle file yet?
This page converts and repairs files you already have. If you are starting from a video or a recording, the subtitle generator transcribes it on your own machine and writes the cues for you — same principle, nothing uploaded.
