Short version: Local Subtitles does not receive your files, and there is no account system. This page explains exactly what does happen.

Your audio and video files

Files you open in Local Subtitles are decoded and transcribed inside your browser tab. They are never transmitted to this site or to any third party, and no copy is stored anywhere outside your own device. There is no upload endpoint in this application. You can verify this in your browser's network inspector, or by disconnecting from the internet once the speech model has been downloaded.

The speech model

The first time you transcribe something, your browser downloads a speech recognition model from the Hugging Face content delivery network and from jsDelivr. Those requests contain no information about your file — only the model filenames. As with any web request, the delivering server can see your IP address. The model is then cached by your browser and reused without further requests.

Hosting

This site is hosted by Netlify, which records standard server log data (IP address, timestamp, requested file, user agent) for delivery and security purposes. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, legitimate interest in operating the site securely.

Local storage

If you activate a licence key or change the cue formatting settings, those values are saved in your browser's local storage so they persist between visits. They stay on your device and are not readable by us. Clearing your site data removes them.

Analytics, cookies, tracking

None. There are no analytics scripts, no advertising, no cookies and no third-party trackers on this site.

Licence checks

When you activate a licence key, the key alone is sent to this site's licence endpoint so its signature can be verified. No file data and no personal information accompany that request.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to information, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, data portability, and to object to processing, as well as the right to complain to a supervisory authority. Contact details are on the imprint page.
